Virtue-signaling, the lazy, self-justifying compulsion of most progressives you went to school with, is the act of communicating by words, actions, or illustration their passion for some social justice issue that makes them look 1) caring; 2) in step with the times. It doesn’t need to be followed up with any walking of the talk, it just needs to be signified on Facebook cover photos, t-shirts, or words spoken a little louder than necessary at Starbucks. And although the hot social issue du jour for leftists changes a bit every 2 – 3 years, when an issue is “in”, it’s In. And today what’s In is “Welcoming Refugees”.
Beyond a few magnanimous sounding syllables that prove how caring one is merely by stating they “stand with refugees”, nothing is really required of the social justice warrior. Hence the laziness, the susceptibility to herd mentality, and the persistently self-referential nature of these people. It’s not important to them whether an immigrant is actually a “refugee” under the statutory definition or an economic migrant – two significantly different things – it’s only important that the immigrants look downtrodden, brownish, and needful of some kind of aid. Unfortunately this lack of interest in examining any concrete details of actual immigration – the rate of admission, the question of background checks, public health impacts, the ability of the U.S. to accommodate a potentially unlimited stream of entrants – gives the back of the hand to the complexity of the problem. But these are just terribly unimportant minutiae to the progressive who just wants to look like they’re doing the right thing.

Senate Democrats and the NEA Teachers’ Union are doing their best to prevent school choice advocate Betsy DeVos from becoming Education Secretary. The Chicago Tribune reports that her confirmation hearings have “alternated between interrogation and crass disparagement. DeVos tried to answer loaded policy questions, mostly from Democrats, only to be interrupted by senators whose aim was to discredit her qualifications. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) waved off DeVos after the Tuesday evening hearing, refusing to shake her hand.”

Pardoning drug offenders by the thousand, many of them violent offenders and/or dealers. Commuting the sentence of a convicted traitor who released military secrets directly impinging on national security. Why does Obama do these baffling things? Is it because, as writer Ed Straker believes, “Obama decides everything based on identity politics. He doesn’t look at the nature of the crime; he looks at who he thinks committed it and how virtuous that person’s group is.”?

The New York Times, once a newspaper, has printed a full-page ad from the Revolutionary Communist Party calling (in so many words) for the overthrow of the government: “Our only recourse now is to act together outside normal channels. Every faction within the established power structure must be forced to respond to what we do — creating a situation where the Trump/Pence regime is prevented from ruling.”

Apparently an 18-month election campaign with state primaries, public debates, slow elimination of candidates, op-eds, and ultimately a free and open national election by the American people is HORRIFYING!

This election will determine the fate of our nation. With Donald Trump we have a chance, and it is only that. Over the past few years we have learned to our shock and dismay just how corrupt and out of touch our elected officials really are. They have an agenda and it does not include the American people, except in extracting as much of our resources as possible. They are a powerful force. I don’t know if Donald Trump can overcome it, but I do know that no one else can.
